Basic requirements for intensive pig farms

Release time:2019-07-16

Pigs need warm environment and dry padding. In winter, they should avoid the evil wind and prevent them from getting too hot in summer. Pigs have certain minimum requirements for space, fresh air, sanitary conditions, feedstuff and drinking water. In addition, livestock facilities do not cause harm to pigs or constitute potential disease threats.
On the other hand, in order to manage pigs more efficiently and complete daily work with the least human resources, the staff also need a suitable working environment.
Environmental Science
The Importance of Temperature
The best range of performance for pigs is Thermoneutral Zone. In this temperature range, the heat output of pigs is not affected by air temperature, and is determined only by the weight and feed intake of pigs.
The upper limit of isothermal zone is Evaporative Critical Temperature (ECT) and the lower limit is Lower Critical Temperature (LCT). When the temperature is above ECT, the pigs start to gasp and evaporate by the lungs. Therefore, when the temperature is above ECT, spray or dripping should be adopted to cool down. Upper Critical Temperature (UCT) is the upper limit for animals to withstand high temperatures. Animals may have serious problems when the temperature exceeds UCT. UCT is generally 6 to 8 degrees higher than ECT.
The critical temperatures of pigs in different piggery environments and different body weights are different. But generally speaking, if pigs behave well, tremble, feed intake exceeds normal standards, the environment temperature is too low. If pigs do not want to touch each other, feed below normal standards, roll too much in the mud, and gasp for more than 50 times a minute, the environment temperature is too high.
